In Africa, PAX is active in Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and in the Sahel region. PAX is looking to recruit an experienced Project Coordinator for its reintegration program in Gulu for a period of maximum 6 months from July until December. The temporary Project Coordinator will work closely together with the PAX Project Lead based in the Netherlands, the staff members of PAX in Gulu, and the local partner organisations.

Background of the returnee camp

In 2002 PAX initiated a peace dialogue with the last two remaining armed groups of the LRA that were based in the Central African Republic. This initiative culminated in a formal Disarmament, Demobilization, Repatriation and Reintegration (DDRR) process with the involvement of the governments of Uganda, CAR, and the DRC. The LRA combatants were mainly Ugandans, while the women have the Congolese and Central African nationality. More than 140 returnees (combatants and their dependents) are currently living in Gulu, where they are working on their rehabilitation and reintegration. PAX, together with its local counterparts, is responsible for this reintegration program that will continue until the end of 2025.  

What will you do?

The Project Coordinator supervises the activities of PAX’ implementing partners of the reintegration program and ensures that their activities are aligned and that they exchange the necessary information. Furthermore, the Project Coordinator collaborates with the PAX colleagues on the reporting, accountability and general management of the program. The Project Coordinator will be based in Gulu, Northern Uganda.  

Main Tasks

  • Planning of the activities and budget of the implementing partners and PAX staff;
  • Harmonizing and coordinating of the interventions of partners and staff, amongst others through weekly meetings;
  • Supervising and monitoring the (result of the) interventions of partners;
  • Maintaining contact with the competent authorities involved in this program;
  • Organizing the summer break visits of the beneficiaries to their home communities;
  • Trouble shooting on a day to day basis, in collaboration with the PAX staff;
  • Ensuring the quality control for the reporting with the PAX staff;
  • Ensuring the compliance of both partner and internal PAX reports.

Who are we looking for?

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant study (related to conflict issues or project management);
  • Knowledge and proven experience in the coordination of groups;
  • Proven experience in budgeting and reporting;
  • Knowledge of management and monitoring of projects;
  • Enthusiasm, motivation, self-confidence and a proactive problem-solving ability;
  • Capacity to work in a diverse team and build bridges;
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language, spoken and written. Knowledge of French is a plus;
  • Affinity with PAX’s mission and values.

What do we offer?

  • A position based in Gulu for up to 6 months in a dynamic and highly international working environment with committed and enthusiastic colleagues;
  • The PAX team in Gulu comprises of two people and the Project Coordinator will also work closely together with one colleague in the DRC as well as the Project Lead and other staff based in PAX’s Utrecht headquarters;
  • Appointment for 36 hours (1 fte) per week;
  • Appointment starting as soon as possible but the beginning of July at the latest;
  • A consultancy contract for up to 6 months with PAX Netherlands for a gross wage of max. € 2.500,-  per month;
  • Travel expenses, health insurance and lodging will be covered.
