Het project Youth Bridges, in samenwerking met The Palestinian Centre for Peace and Democracy (PCPD), is gewijd aan het overbruggen van de kloof tussen Palestijnse gemeenschappen en besluitvormers. Het initiatief richt zich op empowerment van jongeren en vrouwen en pakt cruciale kwesties aan zoals gendergelijkheid, inclusief bestuur en sociale verantwoording op de Westelijke Jordaanoever. Door meer dan 300 deelnemers te trainen in lobby en accountability instrumenten, bevordert het programma betekenisvolle betrokkenheid tussen burgers en lokale overheden.
Bruggen bouwen voor inclusief leiderschap
Youth Bridges versterkt burgerparticipatie en bevordert de samenwerking tussen lokale overheden, gemeenschapsorganisaties en activisten. Het initiatief richt zich op gendertrainingen, dialogen met meerdere belanghebbenden, sociale audits en creatieve initiatieven zoals muurschilderingen. Deze inspanningen hebben geresulteerd in talloze succesverhalen, waaronder de ontwikkeling van inclusiever beleid en de versterking van de rol van vrouwen in lokaal bestuur. Door acountability en inclusiviteit na te streven, baant Youth Bridges de weg voor duurzaam bestuur en een betere toekomst voor Palestijnse gemeenschappen.
Wat is het probleem?
Youth Bridges richt zich op de kloof tussen Palestijnse gemeenschappen en besluitvormers, met name het gebrek aan legitimiteit en verantwoording van de Palestijnse Autoriteiten in de ogen van de bevolking. Deze kloof wordt nog groter door de beperkte deelname van jongeren en vrouwen aan politieke processen die hun leven direct beïnvloeden. Lokale overheden opereren vaak zonder voldoende betrokkenheid van de gemeenschap, en genderongelijkheid blijft inclusief bestuur in de weg staan. Sociale, juridische en structurele barrières verhinderen vrouwen en jongeren om actief bij te dragen aan besluitvorming, waardoor hun stem niet gehoord wordt bij het vormgeven van beleid en de uitvoering ervan in de praktijk. Bovendien marginaliseert de dominantie van traditionele leiderschapsstructuren en gecentraliseerd bestuur deze groepen verder.
Wat vindt PAX?
PAX gelooft dat echte vrede en stabiliteit alleen bereikt kunnen worden door inclusief bestuur en actieve burgerparticipatie. De kloof tussen Palestijnse gemeenschappen en besluitvormers, in combinatie met de marginalisering van vrouwen en jongeren, ondermijnt het vertrouwen en het potentieel voor duurzame ontwikkeling.

To support community engagement and informed decision-making, PAX and the Palestinian Center for Peace and Democracy (PCPD) carry out the “Youth Bridges for Democracy and Participation” project in the West Bank. This initiative aims to provide meaningful opportunities for local youth to contribute to their communities, fostering empowerment and inclusivity. Wat we doen
In het Youth Bridges programma werken we samen met lokale gemeenschapsorganisaties van over de hele Westelijke Jordaanoever om Palestijnen, met name jongeren en vrouwen, in staat te stellen hun deelname aan lokaal bestuur te versterken. Het programma organiseerde een breed scala aan activiteiten om de vaardigheden op het gebied van politieke participatie te vergroten. Door middel van leiderschapstrainingen werden jongeren toegerust met vaardigheden op het gebied van spreken in het openbaar, belangenbehartiging en projectmanagement. Er werden meer dan 30 dialoogsessies gehouden tussen groepen jongeren en vertegenwoordigers van gemeenten, om dringende gemeenschapsproblemen aan te pakken en samen oplossingen te ontwikkelen. Mentorschapsprogramma’s koppelden vrouwen aan ervaren mentoren om hun bijdragen aan beleidsdiscussies en leiderschapsrollen te ondersteunen. Advocacy campagnes pakten kwesties aan zoals gendergelijkheid, werkloosheid en ecologische duurzaamheid via openbare evenementen, sociale media-outreach en creatieve kunstprojecten. Jongeren leidden initiatieven voor gemeenschapsontwikkeling, waaronder schoonmaakcampagnes, het creëren van openbare ruimtes en het organiseren van culturele evenementen om de cohesie binnen de gemeenschap te bevorderen. Daarnaast werden er in verschillende gemeenten jongerenraden opgericht, werden er capaciteitsopbouwende workshops over budgetbewaking en strategische planning gehouden en zorgden uitwisselingen tussen gemeenschappen voor samenwerking en wederzijds begrip tussen regio’s. Deze inspanningen trokken meer dan 500 deelnemers rechtstreeks aan en versterkten de banden tussen burgers en lokale autoriteiten.
Wat we bereikt hebben
Het doel van Youth Bridges is om Palestijnen, met name jongeren en vrouwen, in staat te stellen een actievere rol te spelen in het lokale bestuur, de kloof tussen burgers en besluitvormers te overbruggen en meer inclusiviteit en verantwoordelijkheid in politieke processen te bevorderen. Door leiderschapstraining, mentorschap en mogelijkheden voor directe betrokkenheid bij lokale autoriteiten te bieden, probeert het programma een meer participatieve, transparante en responsieve bestuursstructuur in Palestijnse gemeenschappen te creëren.
Tot nu toe heeft het programma opmerkelijke successen geboekt. Meer dan 500 deelnemers hebben deelgenomen aan verschillende activiteiten, waaronder leiderschapstrainingen, dialoogsessies met lokale overheden en gemeenschapsontwikkelingsprojecten. Deze inspanningen hebben geresulteerd in een sterkere samenwerking tussen jongeren, vrouwen en lokale overheden, wat heeft geleid tot een inclusiever beleid en meer aandacht voor gendergelijkheid in het lokale bestuur. Daarnaast zijn er in verschillende gemeenten jongerenraden opgericht, waardoor jongeren duurzaam vertegenwoordigd zijn in de lokale besluitvorming. Het programma heeft ook bijgedragen aan de bewustwording van belangrijke kwesties zoals werkloosheid en gendergelijkheid, met tastbare gevolgen voor de gemeenschap door initiatieven zoals schoonmaakcampagnes en openbare evenementen.
