On 19 September 2026, a coalition of Belarusian, Ukrainian, and Dutch artists and organizations is organising an artwork about freedom and solidarity: A Percussion Piece at the NDSM Wharf: a large-scale participatory performance by media artist Maxim Tyminko, organised by antiwarcoalition.art. You are invited to join approximately 1,200 participants in making a powerful gesture of solidarity for the hundreds of political prisoners who remain detained in Belarus since the 2020 elections. By making sound, you reflect on the fragility of freedom and the necessity of actively standing up for freedom.

Participants wear cardboard masks featuring the faces of currently detained Belarusian political prisoners and play improvised percussion instruments made from everyday objects such as pots, buckets, and cans. Together, this creates a powerful collective sound: a temporary tribute to people whose voices have been silenced. The performance lasts approximately 20 to 30 minutes and will be recorded as a video artwork.

The participatory performance is an initiative of antiwarcoalition.art and is organized in collaboration with Politzek.me, MÀRA, Viasna, Libereco, PEN Netherlands, Pavetra e.V., JUST, and Stichting NDSM-werf. Everyone who believes that freedom must be actively protected is cordially invited to participate. This is the chance to become part of an artwork and a sign of solidarity with people standing up for freedom in Belarus.
